  • automatic processing for hot spots
  • analysis and estimation of active surface
  • mutation of fire characteristics over time

Damage inventory

  • annual inventory of areas affected by fire through change detection procedures
  • historical analysis of burnt areas
  • analysis of hydro-geological risks associated with fire damage
  • vegetation classification of affected areas

Burnt Area Mapping

Burnt area mapping provides cartography of fire-affected areas, created with the application of an automatically assisted process for the recognition of burnt areas through multispectral and multi-temporal analysis of optical imagery.

Such cartography can produce a register of burnt areas for fires larger than two hectares or 2000 m2 affecting wooded areas or those of mixed vegetation including forests in support of local forest fire management programs, natural resource management programs and hydro-geological plans.
The product consists of maps of the area covered by a fire (BSM polygons). The BSM polygons of the supplied database are supplied with additional data such as the area and perimeter burnt and the date of post-fire acquisitions of satellite or aerial data. Information is also included on the level of damage and the type of vegetation affected.
