The COSMO-SkyMed Very High Resolution SAR Satellite Constellation for Earth Observation and its Applications in Support of Defence, Intelligence and Emergency Response.

The COSMO-SkyMed system is a constellation of four radar satellites equipped with a Very High Resolution (VHR) X-band SAR sensor (down to 1 m.)
The four satellites are located on the same orbit plan thus providing an excellent tool for frequently monitoring a target through the application of processing techniques such as Coherent Change Detection, Coherence time series analysis and differential interferometry.
Examples of the application of these capabilities are given with particular emphasis on defence and intelligence, emergency response, maritime surveillance and land monitoring/mapping domains.

The event is held in Madrid (Spain) at the European Union Satellite Centre (EUSC) premises (Torrejón de Ardoz Air Base, Madrid, SPAIN). This event aims at achieving three mains goals:

  • offering to the G-MOSAIC Users Community a deeper understanding of all the GMES security related services developed in the project;
  • providing a hands-on experience of the tools developed by the partners;
  • debating between stakeholders and users on the future of GMES services for Security.

The event is directed at representatives from institutions and organizations involved in security-related activities: European Union institutions, Member States National Administrations, Armed Forces and International and National Civil Organizations (NGOs in particular). For this reason, the event has been prepared with the objective to encourage interaction and fruitful dialogue between security stakeholders and G-MOSAIC Consortium partners as well as within the User Community itself.

e-GEOS presents Google Earth Enterprise at Forum PA

As part of Forum PA, which takes place between 9 and 12 May at the Nuova Fiera di Roma exhibition grounds, e-GEOS will be presenting Google Earth Enterprise for Public Administrations at the Google Italia stand at 10:00 on Tuesday 10 May, and the company will host a workshop at 12:00 on Wednesday 11 May on Services that can be accessed via Google Earth Enterprise.

The Google Enterprise solution being offered to public administrations allows remote-sensing images and geospatial data to be made available quickly and intuitively. Access to this information makes it possible to fully exploit the investments made by organisations and agencies in the field of GIS and to provide a more efficient tool for improving decision-making processes.

Using the ENTERPRISE version of Google Earth offers public administrations a huge number of opportunities and customisable solutions. e-GEOS, as Google's sole partner for geospatial solutions, will present these solutions at Forum PA, and explain their functionalities and innovations.

From 17 March to 20 November 2011, e-GEOS is supporting Telespazio at Stazione Futuro. Qui si rifà l'Italia, an exhibition organised in Turin at the Officine Grandi Riparazioni as part of the programme to celebrate 150 years since Italian Unification.

In Turin, Telespazio, supported by e-GEOS, is presenting its video installation Love Planet Earth, created using extremely high-resolution satellite images of the planet. This is an intense virtual flight, which, beginning from space, will enable visitors to explore some of the most spectacular places on Earth, flying over oceans, rivers, mountains, deserts, forests and cities with a satellite view.

Each of the large images presented introduces a topic of environmental interest, which it is now possible to monitor, study and control thanks to space technology. The beauty of the satellite pictures of our planet is in contrast to the dramatic nature of some of the issues dealt with: desertification, the intensive use of resources, melting ice caps and the sprawl of the world's biggest cities.

The virtual flight then continues over Italy, with optical and radar satellite images of the country, from the Alps to Sicily, and with the beautiful photographs taken from the International Space Station by Italian astronaut Paolo Nespoli.

Finally, the satellite focuses on Turin, on the area of the Officine Grandi Riparazioni: an example, among others in Italy, of the perfect restoration of former industrial buildings.

Stazione Futuro, curated by the director of Wired Italia Riccardo Luna, seeks to show the Italy of the future through an exhibition divided into themed areas – in turn representing the issues of local and global change in the future – and in numerous languages. It depicts a future guided by technology, but also and above all by all the people who are already working to turn their ideas into reality
